Hello!

We are Clare and Aleks

the humans behind Scurry Dog

Hi, I'm Clare

I am passionate about how gundog-inspired training can help owners and their pets to better understand each other and build a more harmonious partnership.

My background is a mix of travelling, dog training, and  roles in communication and business development in the public sector. My family have a farm in Norfolk where we run a small shoot, and I grew up surrounded by the countryside and its way of life. Seeing the dogs working, and the enjoyment it brought not just the dogs but their handlers too, is one of the reasons why I love gundog training so much today. â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹

Getting my working cocker spaniel four years ago as the first pet dog of my own, really showed me first hand how important breed-specific training is for developing your bond and a dog you can take anywhere. In addition to my cocker I also now have a Labrador retriever puppy, both of whom work (or will work) on shoots in the winter season, and train towards working tests.

We are based in north-west Wales, between the coast and the mountains of Eryri. We also train in several other sports including mantrailing and scentwork.

Having shadowed and worked with established dog trainers for the past 3 years, I am now building up my own business as an IMDT-accredited dog trainer.

Hi, I'm Aleks

I help people to connect with their crazy, intense and fun-loving dogs (esp. spaniels!) and to build a harmonious life packed with beautiful memories and adventures. Apart from being involved with Scurry Dog, I run Synchro Dog Training.

My background is a mix of weird and wonderful experiences, from repairing bicycles in Galway, Ireland, via language interpreting in courts and at Garda (police) stations to traveling offshore around the world, observing marine mammals and seabirds for a living.

But today, true to my childhood passion, I'm single-mindedly focused on dogs: practical training, canine behaviour, dog sports and the history of working breeds. For the last 12 years, I've been helping others discover the thrill of that deep, purposeful connection with their dog.

I'm an accredited dog training instructor (IMDT) and a certified instructor in mantrailing (Mantrailing UK) and scent detection (UKCSD).

I live in the beautiful and rugged mountains of South Wales with my merry band of dogs: a cocker, a springer, a labrador, a collie mix and 2 staffies. We train and compete in several dog sports, like scent detection, competition obedience, gundog tests and GRC/Canine Athletics.

In winter, the spaniels and I, are part of a beating team on several local shoots.

Scurry Dog Cocker Spaniel Cadi

Hey gang, I’m Cadi. I’m a 4 year old cocker and, like lots of cockers, I do everything to the full and to the extreme!

I absolutely love to work so am thrilled to be employed as a part time gundog, part time kong finder.

My favourite things hands down are birdies - with morning cuddles, tennis balls, mud (the smellier the better) and squeezey cheese all coming in a close second place.

Mum says I make her laugh everyday with my unique take on life, and how I always make everything about me - which frankly I think is a weird thing for her to say, because I’m amazing so why would it not be
all about me!

Scurry Dog Cocker Spaniel raven

How do you do, my name is Raven.

You may think that being small is a barrier to being mighty.  Wrong.

My speed, power and passion are so mighty that they can't fit inside me. They spill over.

When I really really really want something, I vibrate.

I love a challenge and need a job. That sense of triumph... I live for it. In response to Mum's praise, I wiggle my whole body furiously.

Apart from being a Scurry Dog, I'm a game-finder with Mum on local shoots in winter.

When off duty, I enjoy being Mum's scarf. IYKYK.

Scurry Dog Springer Spaniel Robin

Em kay. So... I'm Robin...

I'm a happy little dog. I follow my nose and dive into hedges.

Mum says I live in my own Robin World, away with the fairies. Whatever.

Here is a poem I wrote:

Birdies birdies in the sky
Why oh why are you so high

Little birdies in a tree
Why are you ignoring me

Birdies chirping in the shrub
Why're you giving me the snub

Birdies floating on the lake
You are making my soul ache

Birdies hiding in the rush
How I want to make you flush

Birdies plucking at the grass
I shall have your fluffy bottom
